On June 2nd 1975, one hundred prostitutes occupied the Saint-Nizier Church in Lyon, (France). They protested the recurring violences they suffered and the police harassment that prevented them from working, flooded them with fines, and sought to imprison them. This revolutionary occupation led to a multitude of others in France's largest cities.

Fifty years later, where do sex workers' struggles for their right to safety and autonomy stand? As UTSOPI celebrates its 10th anniversary, we invite you to a day of roundtable discussions, speeches, performances, and information booths at the Béguinage Church/House of Compassion.

Op 2 juni vieren we dubbel! Het is dit jaar de tiende verjaardag van UTSOPI. Tegelijk is het de vijftigste verjaardag van de strijd van sekswerkersrechten. Die begon met de bezetting van Saint-Nizier in Lyon: op 2 juni 1975 bezetten honderd sekswerkers die kerk om te protesteren tegen politiegeweld en pesterijen.

UTSOPI organiseert, samen met talloze andere sekswerkersorganisaties over de hele wereld, een dag vol panelgesprekken, toespraken en performances - in een kerk. Net als onze Franse zussen een halve eeuw geleden. We heten daarom Iedereen welkom in de Begijnhofkerk in Brussel.
